Daily Current Affairs for UPPCS- PCS (J)-23 May 24 : India ranked 39th in Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 

India has been ranked 36th out of 119 countries in the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 recently released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

  • The United States was ranked top in the world while India was the highest ranked country in South Asia.

India’s overall score on the 2024 index:

  • India’s overall score in the 2024 index is 4.25.
  • India is one of three countries to achieve top-10 rankings across all resource pillars.

2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index:

  • The Travel and Tourism Development Index is a biennial report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • The WEF publishes the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index biennially since 2007. This index was replaced by the Travel and Tourism Development Index.
  • The Travel and Tourism Development Index measures the factors and policies that enable the sustainable development of the travel and tourism sector and play an important role in the development of a country.
  • The Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 was prepared in collaboration with the University of Surrey, England.

The top five ranked countries in the world according to the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index are as follows:

  1. United States- Score 5.24
  2. Spain-score 5.18
  3. Japan-score 5.09
  4. France – Score 5.07
  5. Australia-Score 5.00
World Economic Forum:

  • The World Economic Forum is a non-profit international think tank founded by Klaus Schwab of Germany in 1971 to promote public-private cooperation.
  • WEF is a platform that brings together government, non-government, business, academia and other stakeholders to find common solutions to global issues. Headquarters: Köln, Switzerland
  • Reports released by WEF: Global Gender Gap Report, Global Competitiveness Report, Energy Transition Index, Global Travel and Tourism Report, Global IT Report.
