India developed first Hyperloop technology:About Hyperloop:
India’s inaugural hyperloop test track, developed through a partnership between Indian Railways, IIT-Madras, and TuTr Hyperloop, was officially opened at IIT-Madras’ Discovery Campus in Chennai.
About Hyperloop:
Hyperloop is a proposed high-speed transportation system that aims to transport passengers and goods at incredibly fast speeds through low-pressure tubes. It was first conceptualized by Elon Musk in 2013 and has since gained attention from several companies and governments as a potential revolutionary mode of transport.
Key Features of Hyperloop:
- Low-Pressure Tubes:
- Hyperloop travels through tubes with very low air pressure (similar to a vacuum). This reduces air resistance, which allows the pod (the vehicle used in the system) to travel at extremely high speeds without friction slowing it down.
- Magnetic Levitation (Maglev):
- Instead of using traditional wheels, hyperloop pods are designed to float above the track using magnetic levitation, similar to maglev trains. This eliminates friction between the vehicle and the track, allowing for smoother and faster travel.
- Speed:
- The proposed speed of a hyperloop system is around 700 mph (1,100 km/h), making it potentially much faster than high-speed trains or even commercial airplanes. For example, a trip between Los Angeles and San Francisco, which takes about 6 hours by car, could be reduced to about 35 minutes.
- Energy Efficiency:
- Hyperloop is designed to be energy-efficient, primarily powered by renewable energy sources like solar panels. The low-resistance design reduces the amount of energy required to maintain high speeds.
- Safety and Comfort:
- Hyperloop systems are designed to be safe, with the pods being able to withstand natural disasters like earthquakes or extreme weather. The design also ensures comfort with smooth acceleration and deceleration.
Current Development:
- Although hyperloop has not yet become a fully operational system, several companies are working to bring the technology to life. These include Virgin Hyperloop (formerly Hyperloop One), Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, and Elon Musk’s The Boring Company.
- Various test tracks have been built around the world, including in the United States and United Arab Emirates. Countries like India, China, and Russia are also exploring potential hyperloop routes.
