Exercise Komodo 2025: Indian Navy’s Participation / अभ्यास कोमोडो 2025: भारतीय नौसेना की भागीदारी

Event Overview:
The Indian Navy is participating in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025 held in Bali, Indonesia, from 15th to 22nd February 2025. INS Shardul and the Long Range Maritime Surveillance P8I aircraft are part of the Indian contingent. This participation follows their involvement in the LA PEROUSE exercises in Indonesia in January 2025.

Significant Naval Presence:
A total of 19 foreign warships and 17 Indonesian warships are part of the exercise. This includes ships from the Indonesian Coast Guard, Marine Police Corps, and fishing vessels.

Environmental & Coastal Programs:
Along with naval exercises, MNEK also focuses on environmental conservation and coastal abrasion prevention initiatives.

India’s ongoing participation in such exercises reflects its dedication to the Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) initiative, emphasizing regional cooperation and stability.

India-Indonesia Bilateral Relations:

Joint Exercises:
Key joint exercises like Samudra Shakti (Navy) and the India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) focus on enhancing interoperability between the two navies and addressing critical issues like drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery, and piracy in the Indian Ocean Region.

Strategic Partnership:
India and Indonesia established a Strategic Partnership in 2005, later upgraded to a New Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018, expanding collaboration in fields like defence and science & technology.

Historical Connection:
Both countries played a pivotal role in the Bandung Conference of 1955, which contributed to the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement (1961).

Trade Relations:

Bilateral Trade:
Indonesia is India’s largest trade partner in the ASEAN region, with total trade reaching around USD 38.85 billion during the 2022-23 fiscal year.

पर्यावरणीय और तटीय कार्यक्रम: नौसेना अभ्यास के साथ-साथ MNEK में पर्यावरण संरक्षण और तटीय क्षरण रोकथाम की पहल भी की जाती है।
