What is Cyclone Dana ?

Cyclone Dana is a powerful cyclonic storm that formed in the Bay of Bengal in October 2024. It is expected to make landfall on the eastern coasts of India (primarily Odisha and West Bengal) and Bangladesh around October 24.
The cyclone has intensified due to a low-pressure system in the Bay, bringing wind speeds of 110–120 km/h.
Coastal areas like Khulna and Satkhira in Bangladesh and Midnapore and South 24 Parganas in West Bengal are expected to experience heavy winds, flooding, and storm surges of up to 8 feet.
Authorities have issued evacuation warnings in anticipation of the cyclone’s potential destruction, including damage to infrastructure, crops, and daily life in the affected regions​.
